Good Friday Procession

Religious procession in remembrance of the passion of the Christ.

Gozitans have preserved a strong sense of popular religiosity. During March, Gozo is a hub of activities in preparation for the Good Friday processions and pageants, which provide real life re-enactments of the life and passion of Christ. The pealing of church bells on Easter Sunday on the 5th April heralds the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. An exuberant mode prevails in some localities as groups of bearers wearing the kunfratija, gloriously lift the statue of Christ along the streets to the sound of lively band marches. These celebrations intertwine with local life and traditions and offer the visitor an authentic experience of Gozo.

The Hellfire 55k Ultra Trail 2015

The course is a gorgeous circumnavigation of the island which covers cliff edge single tracks, lush valleys and water courses, seaside salt pans, sandy beaches and rocky terrain – in short, you will experience the whole of the Mediterranean in one race!

Gaulitana - A Festival of Music

The 9th edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music. Being held between the 11th April and the 24th May 2015, the festival features a series of concerts in various venues in Gozo, with one concert also in Malta. International and local performers – whether orchestras, choirs, chamber ensembles and soloists – will present a diversity of musical styles, from sacred to secular, from serious to light, from chamber to orchestral. Artistically directed by Gaulitanus Choir founder-director Colin Attard, the festival not only features established performers but also gives adequate space to up-and-coming talent.

The Doncaster International Concert Band, under Director Karen Latimer, will be performing a ‘Music Spectacular,’ this coming Sunday, in Xewkija, at St Catherine Street, near to the Xewkija Band Club, starting at 6.30pm. From an idea conceived in the summer of 1993, the Doncaster Concert Band (DCB) played its inaugural concert in January 1994. Over recent years the Band has developed into a successful group of talented musicians performing regularly at outdoor venues and concert halls, mostly around the community of Doncaster.
